Visiting Artist Leads Pottery Workshop

On Sunday, September 30, the students welcomed the local potter, Ellany Gable to the school. Ellany shared her personal journey and how through the 12 steps she was able to regain her life. Creating pottery became, for her a way to experience her own personal transformation as well as a means to accepting the imperfections that lie within all of us. Creating vessels brought her to the realization that one needs to be patient and allow things to unfold in their own time according to God’s plan. One memorable moment during the workshop was when Ellany invited all of the students to gather around the wheel and together draw up the sides of a pot. The students felt a real and tactile connection to the emerging vessel as well as to each other. Each student concluded the day by creating their own vessel which will be fired during the intervening weeks. During the second session, students will glaze their pots as well as learn the process of trimming a pot.

  1. I loved this! What a great project/experience for the kids to participate in. Art – like music is a great outlet for expression!
