An Attitude of Gratitude

by admin on February 17, 2010

We believe that gratitude is a key element to happiness.

Pete J. often tells the story of getting mired in self pity and not recognizing how to get out of the hole.  After spending a few days in such a quandary, he often hears the voice of his first sponsor gently nudging him with “where’s your gratitude list?” As he puts it, “it’s like a light bulb goes off!”  The list becomes a ladder that leads out of the hole, making him again useful to himself and others.

Gratitude and acceptance are called the wings of recovery, the two attitudes that deliver freedom from the negative attitudes that keep us vulnerable to to a variety of life’s difficulties.  Gratitude delivers an awareness that we are indeed rich with whatever we have.

…and in a heart that is filled with gratitude, there is no room for resentment.
