The “tools of sobriety” form the basis of the living skills curriculum at the Family Foundation School.  Tools are devices that make tasks easier.  The collective experiences of those who have found healthy mindedness through the 12 steps have created an extensive variety of useful solutions for the wide range of challenges we all face throughout our lives.

A variety of interesting gadgets are available to help with the often experienced self-pity many experience, including the encouragement to get out of the “if only” trap and to live one day at a time.

The emphasis on changing old routines and patterns, for instance, gets consolidated into the oft repeated slogan “people, places and things.”

And acronyms are common in the toolbox as well.  H.A.L.T. reminds us to beware  that we become vulnerable for relapse when we are hungry, angry, lonely, or tired.

If it’s been awhile since you’ve explored the toolbox, this list of ninety suggestions might remind you of some of valuable but forgotten tools that are ready and waiting to be put to use.
