Fostering Canines

dog-lily-002The Family Foundation School is partnering with a local rescue kennel to foster dogs until appropriate placements can be made for them. The first of the dogs to be fostered at the school is a beagle named Lily.  Lily was found with no home to go to, so she was taken to the rescue kennel.  When Lilly arrived the rescue kennel was full, so she became the first candidate for the partnership to be placed at the school.

But Lily is somewhat of a different case. When she was found, she was pregnant.  She will cared for at the school until the puppies are born and old enough for all the puppies and Lily to be fostered.

Lilly is now the main responsibility of our dog training intern.  The intern has to take her out at 5:30 every morning and takes care of her throughout the day until about 10 at night. Since Lily had no previous training, she has to learn everything from scratch, which can be complicated since she is older.  This training can be disrupted but the fact that she is a people dog and loves attention and becomes very attached to people. Lilly is loved by the students.  Often the many dogs at the school help newer and struggling kids to get past rough times. The struggling students find comfort playing and walking with the animals.  Lily is certainly living up to this role in becoming the friend of many students.
